Tutorial Tuesday: Stitch Markers

I never liked the plastic stitch markers that most yarn shops carried when I started knitting. They were boring, flimsy and very easy to break. The only kind I use any more are the locking stitch markers… and I mainly use them to hold my DIY stitch markers. If you’ve also grown bored with plastic markers grab some supplies and get started!
Materials

You can use plain wire just make sure its a sturdy gauge. You will also need to make a tiny loop at the bottom before threading your beads on. I used wire posts that have a stopper on the end. Mine are plain but you can get some fancy ones at most craft stores in the beading and jewelry section.

I like to put a seed bead at the bottom. Its partly for aesthetics and partly to keep larger beads from sliding off the end.

You’ll want to make that bend about 90º.

If you decide to use a jump ring just loop the wire around the jump ring instead of a pen pr pencil

My pliers have a useful bend in them. You don’t need that– any pliers will do!

Rinse, repeat about 10-12 times or make as many as you need. These can also make great gifts for fellow knitters.
If you’re a crocheter and want to make some swanky stitch markers you can use the same basic technique but try looped earring backs or even small hoop earrings (the kind that close to form a full circle.) Enjoy!

How clever! I love it!!
I use the locking stitch markers, but mostly just to keep count. :/

My DD has been making stitch markers for me; but this is a different technique! I will point her to your tutorial so she can expand her repertoire. Thanks!
